OVO, in partnership with Migros Geneva, led the development and deployment of a refrigerated cargo bike designed for the daily transport of fresh produce.

Equipped with an active refrigerated compartment and an auxiliary battery, this vehicle keeps products at a controlled temperature throughout the delivery. This allows same-day-prepared products to be transported to the Carouge distribution center while preserving their quality and freshness.

The cargo bike does not replace Migros Geneva’s existing delivery methods; rather, it complements them. The goal is to assign the right vehicle to each delivery, based on the volume being transported, the delivery time, and access constraints.

How can we deliver fresh products—made that very morning—to hard-to-reach retail locations within a very short timeframe?

Volumes are limited, delivery windows are restricted, traffic is unpredictable, and access to stores can sometimes be difficult.

The cargo bike with active refrigeration is designed specifically to meet this need: to provide fast, agile, and temperature-controlled deliveries, complementing the existing fleet.

Migros Geneva, a major player in the canton’s retail sector, operates a network of 35 stores and a central kitchen that ensures daily local production.

Each year, this central kitchen produces approximately 500,000 baguette sandwiches for all of its stores.

Committed to minimizing its environmental impact, Migros Geneva is actively implementing a strategy to decarbonize its logistics operations.

The project developed with OVO is fully in line with this approach, embodying a concrete commitment to reducing emissions from urban transportation while maintaining a high level of quality and service.
